The Missouri Tigers softball team fell to a disappointing 4-5 record on the young season Saturday afternoon, after dropping both games of a doubleheader at the Michele Smith Invitational in Clearwater, Fl.

The Tigers faced off against a tough No.15 Oklahoma State squad. The Tigers played it close for an additional time this season, but they fall 3-2. The game mainly came down to a Tigers error in the third inning after their right fielders glove nicked the ball leading to a two RBI double and extending the Oklahoma State lead to 3-0. The Tigers hit two runs late in the sixth which could’ve game the Tigers the lead if not for the error.

In game two played at Eddie C. Moore Complex, it was a whole different ball game. The Tigers made three errors which were taken advantage of by their opponent, the Marshall Thundering Herd, and they took a able to capture five unearned runs. The Tigers couldn’t get it done offensively either, stranding a total of 10 base runners and only getting two runs due to bases loaded walks. In the end the Thundering Herd won comfortably by a score of 8-2.

“We will continue to learn and grow from days like today,” Coach Fogue said after the game, “With a young team like this, we’ll experience some growing pains.”

Mizzou will close out their weekend in Clearwater on Sunday with one final doubleheader. Mizzou faces off against Florida Atlantic and South Florida in back to back games with first pitch scheduled for 10:15  and 12:30, respectively.
