The 2020-2021 men’s basketball season is finally underway. In a year that has seemed so unpredictable it is refreshing to see sports come back, so that people can take their mind off of other things going around in the world. The Tigers allowed a limited in-person attendance last night to start the season against Oral Roberts.

As for the game Mizzou got out to a strong start against the Golden Eagles. At the end of the first half, Mizzou outscored Oral Roberts 42-32. This was in part due to the 7-0 run Mizzou went on to start the first half they never looked back. Dru Smith led the way for Mizzou in the first half with: 17 points, 3 rebound, 1 assists, 1 steal, 1 block.

The second half was all Mizzou. The Tigers outscored the Golden Eagles 49-32 in the second half. Another Smith, Mark led the Tigers in the second half. He had: 11 points, 3-3 three-pointers, 1 rebound, 1 assist. Mizzou won the game 91-64 against Oral Roberts. Mark Smith led the team in scoring with 18 points. The biggest difference in this game was the paint presence Mizzou had. Mizzou had 46 points in the paint compared to 24 points in the paint by Oral Roberts.

While the Golden Eagles don’t seem like the stiffest opponent Mizzou will take every win they can get. Mizzou went 15-16 last year before the season was cut short. They have started off 1-0 this year, and will look to improve on that record next Wednesday against the Boston College Eagles.
