Mizzou Swimming and Diving Competes at Tennessee Invite

Saturday, Jan. 5-

The Mizzou diving team competed in the Tennessee Diving Invitational Jan. 3 through Jan. 5. The Tigers dove against 12 different schools, six of them being SEC rivals.

With the weather getting cold outside, diver Loren Figueroa made sure to heat things up inside the Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. She came in fourth place in the 3-meter springboard on the first day of the invitational. She then improved her preliminary place coming in eighth with a score of 291.15. She wasn’t done shining though as she won the 1-meter dive on day two. Figueroa finished the invitational still undefeated.

Figueroa wasn’t the only one who placed, though. Her teammates Sharon Finn and Lauren Reedy advanced to the finals. Reedy was one of 12 who made it to the finals on Thursday. She finished behind Figueroa in seventh place and also in 10th in her preliminary place.

Finn barely missed qualifying for finals on Thursday, as she placed 14th in prelims. She managed to qualify for finals on day two and got a score of 260.10, finishing in ninth place.

Also competing with their teammates during the invitational were sophomores Lauren Callin and Alex Skinner.

The Mizzou men also did well in the invitational. David Bonuchi had won the last eight events he competed in coming into the meet. On day one of the invitational, he received the 1-meter springboard title scoring 374.70 in the finals to claim top honors. On day two, the junior scored 306.75 coming in 17th place in prelims.

Freshman Clark Thomas finished 16th in the prelims with a score of 285.05. He came surging back on day two, placing seventh in the 3-meter dive with a score of 338.85.

Also competing in the 3-meter dive were freshman Michael Barry and Cameron Cowgill. Barry scored 189.80 on Thursday and 187.50 on Friday. Cowgill finished with a score of 199.10 on Thursday.

After the three-day event, the Missouri swimming and diving teams will take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa at 12 p.m. Jan. 12.
