The No. 53 Tigers tennis team improved to 2-1 in dual matches this season with a 4-0 victory over No. 63 Brown Sunday morning in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Mizzou team of senior Maria Christensen and junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach gave the Tigers an early lead with an 8-4 win over the Bears’ Jessica Harrow and Ammu Mandalap. Brown made it interesting when Sarah Kandath and Nikita Uberoi defeated Alex Clark and Madison Rhyner 8-4, but then the Tigers never looked back.

At court No. 1, Mizzou’s team of junior Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Elisha Gabb squeaked out an 8-7 victory to give Missouri a 1-0 lead going into the singles matches, which turned out to be a huge boost for the Tigers.

In singles, the Tigers grabbed a 2-0 advantage when Christensen beat Kandath 6-2, 6-4, and then Gaytan-Leach recovered from a tough first set to beat Misia Krasowski 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The domination officially set in when Alex Clark beat Mandalap in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, even though Tigers Rachel Stuhlmann and Elisha Gabb were trailing at the conclusion of Clark’s match.

With the win, Mizzou improves to 3-1 on the spring season and heads to Akron, Ohio to take on the Zips at 11 a.m. Friday.
