After a strong 8-2 start to the season, the Women’s Tennis team has now dropped three straight. Their SEC play began with a loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They continue looking for their first SEC win in three years.

Doubles has been a strong suit for the Tigers all season and they played all the way to the very end against the Bulldogs. After Mizzou’s number three doubles team of Elys Ventura and Eleanor Fay lost a quick 1-6 match against Mississippi State’s Sara Lizariturry and Marta Falceto, the number one and two doubles teams both went into tiebreakers. The number two team of Marta Oliveira and Vivien Ábrahám completed their match first against Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk and pulled out a 7-6 (5) win. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the number one team of Serena Nash and Gabrielle Goldin lost to Tamara Racine and Magda Adaloglou by the same score of 7-6 (5).

After a heartbreaking end to the doubles portion of the competition, Mizzou could not turn it around in singles. The Tigers only pulled one win as Marta Oliveira defeated Mississippi State’s Alexandra Mikhailuk 6-4, 6-4 at the number four spots. Missouri ended up losing at the number one, two and three spots, which gave Mississippi the 4-1 win.

Tennis coach Colt Gaston had no comments after the match.

Next the Tigers of Mizzou head to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers of Louisiana State University. They will be looking to get their season back on track and win their first SEC match since 2017.
