The Mizzou Tennis team struggled at the Midwest Blast in Champaign, Illinois, this weekend, finishing with three doubles play losses, two singles play losses and a singles play split against Purdue. The field consisted of teams from Illinois, Notre Dame and Purdue, as well as the Tigers.

In singles play, Mizzou earned a 3-3 split with Purdue on Friday. Sophomore Brianna Lashway won in straight sets while sophomore Clare Raley and junior Brittany Lashway each won in three sets.

Mizzou then lost in singles play to Illinois on Saturday by a score of 5-1. Brittany Lashway secured the Tigers’ only win, 6-7 (0-7), 6-2, 6-3 over Jade Hilton.

On Sunday Mizzou lost singles play again by a score of 5-1, this time to Notre Dame. Junior Bea Machado Santos picked up the sole win for the Tigers, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (12-10) over Allison Miller.

On Friday, Mizzou matched up against both Illinois and Notre Dame in doubles play. The Tigers were swept 3-0 by the Illini before losing to the Fighting Irish 2-1. Santos and Raley teamed up for the Tigers’ only win, 8-3, over Brooke Broda and Allison Miller. The Tigers were swept again in doubles play on Saturday, this time against Purdue.

With the conclusion of the Midwest Blast, the Tigers have wrapped up their fall schedule. They will resume competition at the start of the spring season on Jan. 5, at the Hawaii Invite in Maui, Hawaii.
