Missouri Volleyball played number 1 Penn State in the Sweet Sixteen game of the NCAA Championship. This match concluded their 2017 season, with the Tigers finished 22-12. The Tigers were unable to change their luck of last season’s Sweet Sixteen loss to 2nd ranked Minnesota.

The Nittany Lions dominated the court sweeping the Tigers quickly in three straight sets. Penn State’s offense came out explosive in the first set with 14 kills on .565 hitting. In the first set alone, four of the Penn State attackers placed double digits on kills.

Losing the first set 25-17, the Tigers did not want Penn State to control the entire game. Late in the second set the Tigers went on a scoring run to better balance out the score board to 19-16. Penn State went on to win the set outscoring Mizzou 6-2 over the final stretch of set two.  Ending the set 25-18

Hopeful to win the third set, Missouri began with a 11-7 lead. Although they came out unsuccessful in the end this was by far Missouri’s best performance of the afternoon. The Tigers had a great season, and Penn State will continue on the tournament journey. Missouri head Coach Wayne Kreklow had nothing but positive things to say about his team in a post-game interview, “”I was really proud though of the way we battled. I’m proud of this season these ladies had. Prior to the match, I looked at the date and saw it was Dec. 8. Four months ago, on Aug. 8, we started official practice. It’s a long brutal season. It’s a tough thing to do well and I’m very proud of them for doing it. We made it into elite company, as there was only 16 teams left playing this weekend and we were one of them. They earned it.”
