The Missouri Tiger volleyball team rebounded from their SEC opening loss to Kentucky with a 3-1 win over Texas A&M in College Station on Sunday, earning the Tigers their first SEC victory of the year. The win pushed Mizzou to 8-7 overall while the loss dropped the Aggies to 3-6 and 0-2 in SEC play.

The game got off to a less than stellar start for the Tigers, who dropped the first set to the Aggies 25-21. A 7-1 Aggie run led to a 9-4 for A&M, and the Aggies never looked back, not letting the Tigers within three the rest of the set.

The second set was a back and forth affair featuring nine ties and five lead changes. The Aggies led 13-9 and then 20-18 before three consecutive Mizzou kills gave the Tigers their first lead since 2-1. The Aggies took the lead back at 22-21, but Missouri ended the set on a 4-0 run to avoid a 2-0 set deficit.

The Tigers fell behind in the third set 6-5 before pulling off an incredible 14-2 run to take a 19-8 lead. The set ended up by far the most lopsided of the day, with the Tigers pulling off a 25-12 win.

Set four once again saw the Aggies get off to a lead. The Aggies led 18-12 before Mizzou tied it up with a 7-1 run. Texas A&M regained the lead at 21-20, but three straight Tiger kills gave Missouri a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Dariana Hollingsworth closed out the match for the Tigers with her fifth ace of the afternoon.

Melanie Crow and Leketor Member-Meneh led the Tigers with 11 kills each, while Alyssa Munlyn had 10.  It was Crow’s second straight match at the top of the kill leaderboard for the Tigers after her eight kill performance in the Tigers’ loss to Kentucky.

Mizzou is back on the road Friday for a 7pm match at Auburn. The Missouri Tigers will have their hands full with an Auburn Tiger team that is 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in SEC play.
