Mizzou Volleyball Keeps Rolling

Mizzou volleyball continued their strong play with a sweep of Ole Miss on Sunday at the Hearnes Center,. They won the three matches by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-15, respectively. The win was the Tigers’ fourth straight, a streak that began September 24th at Texas A&M and has continued on with road victories at Auburn and Alabama through Mizzou’s win over the Rebels. The win improved the Tigers to 11-7 and 4-1 in SEC play, while the Rebels dropped to 12-7 and 3-3 in SEC play.

In each of the three sets the Tigers got out to steady leads and the Rebels weren’t able to catch up. In set one,  Mizzou took a 10-6 lead, extended it to 13-7 and then 19-13, and eventually took the set 25-17. The second set was the closest of the day, but Mizzou used an 8-1 run to pull away and turn an 11-9 lead to 18-10. Missouri got off to a 10-5 lead in set three and didn’t looked back in that one either, finishing the Rebels with a 25-15 win.

The story of the day was redshirt freshman Kayla Caffey, who had ten kills on a .909 hitting percentage, the second highest single match hitting percentage in program history. In the first two sets, she was seven for seven. Overall, Caffey has 107 kills on the season with a .316 hitting percentage.

Mizzou will try to keep their streak going Friday at 6:30CT against Mississippi State at the Hearnes Center. The Bulldogs (9-12) have struggled mightily in conference play, going 0-6 so far with only three set victories.
