In the opening match of the Utah Classic on Friday, the Missouri Tigers volleyball team (4-4) were met by the fierce Green Bay Phoenix (4-3). The match started off close, with the Tigers narrowly outplaying the Phoenix in the first set 25-22. Green Bay showed they were a force to recon with in the second set, dominating the Tigers 25-16. The game continued its back-and-forth nature in the third set as the Tigers took it 25-23. Green Bay knew it was win or bust in the final set, but Missouri refused to play into their hands. The Tigers took the final set as they took the first, 25-22.

Senior Sydney Deeken shined for the Tigers in this match, leading the team with 17 kills. She also totaled her career high in points, scoring a staggering 20.5 in the win.

Senior Courtney Eckenrode played a large part in the victory as she totaled her second double-double of the year, recording 44 assists and 10 digs.

Injuries plagued the Lady Tigers on Friday as they were without All-American Melanie Crow and freshman Leketor Member-Meneh.

For the Phoenix, freshman Taylor Wolf added 13 kills. Sophomore Maddie Yoss also contributed largely for Green Bay as she totaled 45 assists.

The Tiger’s next challenge presents itself in the form of a double-header on Saturday, the first against No. 15 ranked San Diego, followed by No. 18 ranked Utah.
