Mizzou volleyball kept its run of recent dominance going Sunday afternoon at the Hearnes Center, sweeping the LSU Tigers 25-16, 28-26, and 25-15. The win improved the Missouri Tigers to 16-9 and 9-3 in SEC play, while the LSU Tigers fell to 17-7 and 8-5 in conference.

The first set was tied 4-4, but a 3-0 Mizzou run gave the Tigers a lead they never gave back. Missouri ended the match on a 9-2 run capped off by a Alyssa Munlyn kill to win 25-16.

The second set was the closest of the day, and Missouri dug itself a 6-2 hole. 12-11 was Mizzou’s first lead of the match. From then on, the match was a back and forth affair, with the teams trading leads five times and tying 12 times. Finally, an attack error by LSU’s Gina TIllis coupled with a kill by Dariana Hollingswort gave Mizzou the 28-26 victory.

Missouri got off to a strong 7-3 start in set three and never looked back. That lead ballooned to 13-7, 17-9, and 23-12 in what was eventually a 25-15 win. That match win gave the Missouri Tigers the victory for the day and four match win streak overall.

The star of the day for Mizzou was Alyssa Munlyn, who had 15 kills on a .636 kill percentage, a season high for her. Overall, Mizzou had 50 kills to 37 for LSU, and Missouri had all six aces.

Mizzou is next in action at South Carolina on Wednesday November 8th at 5 p.m. The Gamecocks have struggled recently, losing four out of their last five, and are 11-13 overall and 4-8 in SEC play.
