The Mizzou women’s volleyball team opened up NCAA tournament action as the Tigers took on IUPUI at the Hearnes Center. Mizzou beat IUPUI in straight sets 3-0(25-22, 25-15, 25-18) to advance to the second round of the tournament.

The three stars of the game were Carly Kan, Lisa Henning and Molly Kreklow. Henning, who is a two-time All-American, finished the game with a double-double posting 15 kills on .333 hitting as well as notching in 10 digs. Kan finished the game with 14 kills and added nine digs to the stat sheet. Kreklow, who received the SEC Player of the Year award, had 41 assists on 53 Tiger kills and 14 digs to finish the game with her 12th double-double of the season.

Mizzou started off flat in the first set, allowing IUPUI to gain a 13-7 lead. Mizzou responded with a 7-3 run to tie the set at 16-16. The Tigers were carrying the momentum in the latter part of the set, as they took a 20-17 lead, but IUPUI rallied back to tie it at 22-22. The Tigers would go on and score three straight points to draw first blood.

After a tough first set, Mizzou proved that it was worthy of its overall No. 4 seed in the tournament. The Tigers jumped out to a 10-2 lead to dominate IUPUI in the second set and double their advantage.

The third set was just as rough as the first one. Mizzou jumped out to an 8-2 lead and then extended the margin to 14-7. But after an IUPUI timeout, the Jaguars would rally back to tie it at 14-14. Mizzou went on an 11-4 run after that and took the third set to defeat the IUPUI Jaguars and advance to the next round.

Mizzou will play the Purdue Boilermakers at the Hearnes Center on Saturday in the second round of the bracket.

The match starts at 7:30 p.m.
