Mizzou WBB Rallies in Thrilling Win Against Wright State

Mizzou Women’s Basketball took to the floor in a thrilling game that saw the Tigers come back to defeat Wright State 82-80. Thursday nights win brought their ninth straight home-opener win at Mizzou Arena. This was also Mizzou 47th straight home non-conference win in the regular season.

The first half for the Tigers wasn’t bad offensively, but defensively they could not stop the likes of Wright States’ Chelsea Welch who was hot from there shooting 3-of-4 and going 8-of-8 from the charity strike, ultimately scoring 21 in the first half and the halftime score being 42-35 in Wright State’s favor. After spending most of the game trailing, the Tigers ended on a 17-5 run, stepping up their game offensively and defensively as they shot 53.3 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from the three-point line in the game and picked up four blocks and four steals. One notable thing the Tigers did was they were able to score 25 total points from the charity stripe while also managing to foul out two of their starters. In the last minute with the game tied, Redshirt Senior Jordan Frericks made a key block that would lead to the game-changing score for redshirt junior guard Lauren Aldridge as they would take the lead.

The Top Tigers for the game were Lauren Aldridge, Jordan Frericks, and Cierra Porter. For Redshirt Junior Lauren Aldridge, she put a career high in assist and was close to a double-double with nine points and 9 assists. Redshirt Senior Jordan Frericks became the fourth Tiger ever to open up the season with three games of 20 or more points and would also set a career high for the charity stripe going 12-of-19. She would finish the game with 26 points of 7-of-14 shooting and brought down eight rebounds. The final Top Tiger is Junior forward Cierra Porter turned in the 15th double of her career putting up 13 points and 15 rebounds, The Tigers are 12-3 when she puts up a double-double.

Mizzou Women’s Basketball will take a short trip east to JQH Arena in Springfield, MO to play the Missouri State Bears Sunday with Tip-off scheduled at 2 P.M. CT.
