Mizzou WBB Squeaks by Florida

The No. 15 Missouri Tigers Women’s basketball team managed to escape with a narrow victory over the Florida Gators at home Monday night, by a final score of 66-64. The Tigers edged out the Gators down low in their matchup, with standout performances from the duo of forwards Jordan Frericks and Cierra Porter.

Cierra Porter lead all scoring and put up 27 points in total on the night, which matched her career high. She also put up season highs in three pointers made, assists, and offensive rebounds against the Gators.All of that was to the tune of setting the record for most career points in the first half, with 21. Frericks helped to carry the Tigers in the second half, putting up 14 points down the stretch and putting up 18 total in the game. She put up six unanswered points with a little over five minutes remaining to give Mizzou a 60-55 lead, and from that point Mizzou hung onto the lead for the rest of the game.

Frericks and Porter combined for 45 points against Florida, which is the most that the two have ever combined for. This win also helped put the Tigers stay undefeated in their all-time series against Florida, bumping their record against the Gators to a perfect 7-0 all time. Sophie Cunningham was also a key contributor in the game, putting up ten points of her own. She also pulled down nine rebounds for the Tigers and had four assists. This game marked the 20th time this year out of 22 games that she has put up double digit figures in the scoring column.

The Tigers next outing will be against the Kentucky Wildcats to cap off their three game home stand on Thursday, Feb. 8, tip off is set for 8 p.m.
