Mizzou WBB Wraps Up Exhibition Slate

The No. 16 Missouri Women’s Basketball defeated the McKendree Bearcats, 80-30, in their second and final exhibition game of the season Monday night at Mizzou Arena.

The Tigers dominated defensively, not allowing more than 10 points in any quarter and holding the Bearcats to just below 25 percent shooting. They also managed to force 22 turnovers, and capitalized as well, scoring 34 points off of them. On other side of the floor, Missouri’s offense provided a balanced attack shooting 45.8 percent from the field, getting 24 points from three, 36 from the paint and 38 from the bench. For the second straight game, at least 11 Tigers found the scoring column led the way by Junior guard Sophie Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) led the way, dropping 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Redshirt senior forward Kayla Michael (Cincinnati, Ohio) joined Cunningham as the only Tiger to score double digits with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.

The stars of the night were Sophie Cunningham, Jordan Frericks, and Hannah Schuchts. Cunningham led the Tigers in points and rebound with 13 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt-Senior Jordan Fredrick (Quincy, Ill.) dominated on both sides of the ball scoring nine points while shooting 50 percent while on the defensive end pulled down seven rebounds and getting two block and team-lead four steals. The final star was Redshirt sophomore Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Florida) controlled the paint leading the team with four blocks in the game matching her career high which was set against Indiana State (11/22/16).

The Tigers are set to tip-off the regular season with the Hawkeye Challenge where they will be up against Western Kentucky. The game will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT. at Carver–Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
