Mizzou Wins Thriller against South Carolina

It took all five sets for the Missouri Tigers volleyball team to get past South Carolina on Wednesday. The victory extended their win streak to five, all of which coming against SEC opponents. It was a very sloppy opening set, especially from the Gamecock side, accumulating five service errors. On the Tiger side of the ball, they were not able to come away with a block that set. At the end of all the slop, South Carolina emerged, winning the set 19-25.

The second set is when the Tigers started to crank up the heat. Sydney Deeken made all of the difference. The Senior came off the bench early on in the second set and provided the team five out of the 15 kills for the team in the second set. The third set though was a true nail biter. Mizzou did have their leads during the set, but South Carolina continued to put pressure on the Tigers, eventually tying the match at 23. Mizzou did not back down, and a timely block and kill from Deepen gave Mizzou the the third set by a score of 25-23. In the fourth set it looked like all was at hand for the Tigers, as they were up 19-15. But a late 10-3 point scoring run by the Gamecocks solidified a fourth set victory.

The final set of the night saw South Carolina at the brink of elimination many times. They pulled off a much needed 5-0 to keep themselves alive. However, a Mizzou kill coupled with an ace secured the fifth straight win for the Tigers, winning in five sets with scores of (19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14), respectively.

The next game for Mizzou is November 12 at Noon in Gainesville, Florida.
