Saturday, December 3—

The Missouri Tigers women’s basketball team destroyed Missouri State at the Hearnes Center last night as Mizzou operated with an unexpectedly high-powered offense. Missouri sunk free three after free throw, 3-pointer after 3-pointer at key times in the game as they secured their 73-49 victory.

The Tigers dominated the first quarter and continued their reign of terror into the second. Mizzou started to stretch the lead further and further until Sierra Michaelis capped off the second quarter with a 3-pointer at the minute mark.

The offense did not let up in the second half of the game, either, as Missouri came out of halftime fired up. Within the first five minutes, freshman Amber Smith had already racked up six points. Missouri extended their lead in the third to 53-36.

Apparently, that was not enough of for the Tigers as they went into the fourth quarter. Missouri State was locked down for almost six minutes without a shot. Mizzou extended their lead over the Bears to 27 points by the time the clock hit two minutes. The Bears could just not mount a comeback as the Tigers ended the game with a commanding victory.

Missouri’s star of the night was sophomore Sophie Cunningham. She led the team with 22 points and notable numbers in rebounds and assists. Cunningham is the only Missouri player to score at least 15 points, five assists and five rebounds in a game.

In addition to Cunningham, Michaelis reordered 15 points with an impressive three steals, a season-high. However, it was redshirt senior Lindsey Cunningham that stole the night as well, recording three steals, a season-high, along with another season-high of 13 points.

Missouri will hit the road after finishing their two-game home stand as they take on Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
