The Missouri Tigers went into Auburn Arena looking for a win to help with positioning for the Women’s NCAA Tournament. However, despite a monstrous third quarter, the Tigers fell short, 58-54 to the Auburn Tigers. This loss drops the Tigers to an overall record of (19-9) and (8-6) in the SEC while also dropping them to fifth place in the league, tied with two other teams.

Missouri was down by just four at halftime then came out with a huge third quarter, outscoring Auburn 23-12.
But a poor fourth quarter by Mizzou held them out of their 20th win on the season. Missouri’s Tigers were outscored 20-9 by Auburn’s Tigers, sealing a 58-54 loss.

This loss really hurts the Missouri Tigers’ seed placement in the NCAA tournament. They will now most likely drop to a lower seed and get an unfavorable lie in the tournament.

On the positive side, Sophie Cunningham had a fantastic game. She finished with 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists. But it wasn’t all Cunningham; Amber Smith had a fantastic game as well. Posting up a double-double and finishing with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. A big part of this loss today was the crucial injury to Freshman point guard Akira Levy, who fell to the ground in the fourth quarter after her right knee buckled. She missed the remainder of the game and there’s currently no status on the significance of the knee injury.

Missouri returns to the court on Thursday when the visit the Arkansas Razorbacks (17-11) and (6-8) in the SEC. The last time they faced off was January 10th when Mizzou came away with a huge 71-53 victory at Mizzou Arena. The last two games of the season are huge for the Tigers, with NCAA tournament seeding on the line.
