In their regular season opener, The Mizzou Women’s Basketball team found a 97-89 victory over the Leathernecks of Western Illinois.

It was no easy task for the Tigers to defeat the Leathernecks. The game saw several lead changes, ties, and the Tigers with a four-point deficit heading into the final quarter of play. When it mattered most, specifically in overtime, key players stepped up and were able to separate the Tigers with an eight-point win.

Senior guard Amber Smith led all scorers with 27 points and 15 rebounds, but she was not alone. Jordan Chavis, Hannah Schuchts, Elle Brown, and Jordan Roundtree all scored in double digits to aid the Tigers winning effort. Mizzou made the little things count as well, which seemed to make the difference ultimately. The Tigers bench outscored the Leathernecks 28-13 and they went 13 for 16 from the free throw line.

Worthy to note, this was the Mizzou women’s highest scoring game since February of 2017, additionally, Amber Smith recorded the 11th double-double of her career. The Tigers match up next against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska, at Mizzou Arena, on November 10th.
