Saturday, December 17 –

With an 11-point victory over UT-Martin (3-8), the Missouri Tigers (9-3) now have their first three-game win streak of the 2016-2017 season.

The ladies owe the streak to senior Sierra Michaelis, who was red hot yet again for Missouri, dropping 23 points (15 of which came from behind the arc).

Michaelis has been the leading scorer in two of three games during the streak and her ability to shoot the three has been crucial thus far. She is averaging 12.3 points per game, but in the past three games that average jumps to 20.3 points per game.

The strong outside shooting was accompanied by a strong double-double from forward Cierra Porter.

Porter, the sophomore from Columbia, recorded her fifth double-double on the season and her dominance showed as the Tigers outrebounded the Skyhawks 46-27.

McDonald’s All-American Sophie Cunningham returned to the lineup after missing two games with a minor back issue.

Cunningham, the team’s leading scorer on the season, picked up right where she left off, scoring 21 points and adding an impressive six rebounds and three blocks.

The star sophomore leads the team not only in scoring but also in assists (4.4), minutes per game (32.8) and free throw percentage (86.7). Her presence has been huge for the Tigers and while the team was able to pick up two wins without Cunningham, it is apparent that this Missouri squad thrives off of her play and is a different team with her on the floor.

As 2016 winds to an end, so does the non-conference schedule for Mizzou. The Tigers have one more home game against UC-Riverside (5-3, on a four-game win streak) and then head to St. Louis for a showdown against St. Louis University (7-3).

Conference play in the Southeastern Conference begins Sunday, Jan. 1, as the Georiga Bulldogs (7-3) make their way to Mizzou Arena.
