The Missouri women’s basketball team is completely dominating the court and they didn’t slow down Sunday when they beat Alabama 65-56 in Tuscaloosa. With the win, the Tigers grabbed the No. 3 seed as well as a double bye in next week’s SEC Tournament.

The Mizzou women finished the regular season with a total of 11 conference victories. This hasn’t happened since the 1989-90 Mizzou women’s basketball season.

Sophomore guard Sophie Cunningham and senior guard Sierra Michaelis led the team to victory with a combined total of 42 of the Tigers’ 65 points. Michaelis scored 22 points, a game high. Ten of her 22 points came in the fourth quarter.

Cunningham scored 20 points, 15 of which came in the second quarter. This big day is nothing new to Cunningham, as she has scored at least 20 points in four consecutive games.

Senior Lindsey Cunningham and sophomore Cierra Porter posted a combined total of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Both teams lacked pace in the beginning of the first quarter. However, Mizzou quickly gained momentum with a 17-7 lead to open the second frame. Sophie Cunningham and Michaelis managed to run with a pair of 3s each and a jumper. After Porter nailed a 3-pointer, the Tigers led 20-9 with about seven minutes remaining.

Alabama started to pick up the pace as well, taking a 29-26 advantage into halftime. After a fairly even third quarter, the Tigers took a 58-51 lead late in the game. However, Alabama came back with five points of their own. But after that, Michaelis came in strong with a jump shot that secured offensive possession within the final minutes of the game.

With the regular season ending, the Tigers clinched the 3-seed in the SEC Tournament this Friday. The game will be in Greenville, South Carolina. The team’s opponent is yet to be determined.
