Mizzou wrestling clinches MAC regular-season championship

Another win and a first ever Mid-American Conference regular season title are in the books for Mizzou wrestling. Now, coach Brad Smith and the Tigers are aiming at even greater prizes.

No. 2 Missouri easily handled Eastern Michigan 31-7 in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Sunday, finishing the regular season undefeated on the season at 20-0 and winning all eight of their MAC duals.

Top-raked J’den Cox also remained undefeated on the year, defeating EMU’s Anthony Abro by a 5-1 decision at 197 pounds.

Two Tigers won by pin: top-ranked Drake Houdashelt at 149 pounds and No. 4 Johnny Eblen at 174 pounds. Mizzou wrestlers won a total of 8 out of 10 matchups.

Tiger freshman Chase Brennan notched his first ever dual win at 125 pounds to begin the match. Zach Synon and fifth-ranked Lavion Mays won the next two duals for Missouri, at 133 pounds and 141 pounds, respectively.

Two other Tigers collected dual wins in the match, with Ty Prazma winning at 165 pounds and No.11 Devin Mellon winning in the heavyweight division.

Up next for Missouri is the NWCA National Duals, starting with a regional round match against American from the Hearnes Center on Sunday, starting at noon.
