Thursday, December 8—

A historic top five match took place in Columbus, and it wasn’t on the gridiron. The Ohio State wrestling team, ranked number four in the country, played host to the number five Missouri Tigers on Thursday at St. John arena. Ohio State dominated, as the Buckeyes would manage to grab seven out of 10 sets on the evening. There were three wrestlers on display Thursday who are ranked number one in their respective weight classes. The Buckeyes featured Bo Jordan (174) and Olympian Kyle Snyder (heavyweight). Missouri, of course, has Olympian J’den Cox (197). All three wrestlers picked up victories in their matches tonight.

The Tigers were missing a little bit of firepower, as four of their starters were out for tonight’s meet. Three of these happened to be in the first five classes, which allowed the Buckeyes to jump out to an early lead as they grabbed the first four matches of the night.

The Buckeyes dominated a few of their victories, taking two by technical fall (149, 184), and one by pin (heavyweight). All of those victories featured ranked Ohio State men against unranked Tigers. The meet featured three matchups between ranked opponents, with the higher ranked person winning all of them. Luckily for the Tigers, two of them were wearing Missouri singlets. This should instill some faith in the Tigers that, perhaps when fully healthy, they can go toe to toe with another elite opponent like this. They did it earlier this season when they defeated a top ten Virginia Tech squad.

The Tigers face another test Sunday, again on the road, against the Bobcats of Ohio. This should be another match up to build some momentum for the Tigers and get them back to their winning ways before coming back home to the Hearnes Center.
