The Mizzou men’s and women’s cross country teams travelled to Chicago this past Saturday to compete at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. Against their toughest competition yet, the women looked to continue their undefeated season, while the men were aiming to improve on their 3rd place finish at the Illinois State Invitational on September 14th. While neither the men’s or women’s teams were able to post outright victories, both turned in positive showings.

The men’s team had their strongest performance of the season in the 8k, posting a 1-5 team average of 25:04, their best of the season. Kieran Wood and Thomas George continued their successful junior years, leading the Tigers as both ran an impressive time of 24:19, placing fifth and sixth overall, respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Tigers was Evan Schulte, who posted a time of 25:24, Martin Prodanov with a 25:30, and Stephen Mugeche, who ran a 25:48. As a team the Tigers fared well, placing eighth out of 26 teams, the biggest field they have ran against all season.

Though the Tigers saw an end to their undefeated streak, it was their best team performance, with multiple Tigers going under 18:00 in the 5K. The Tigers were led by freshman Tori Findley, who ran her way to a time of 17:22 to place 13th overall. In addition, three of the four remaining point scorers for the team also broke the 18:00 barrier, with Sophia Racette posting a time of 17:38, Mikayla Reed finishing just three seconds later at 17:41, and Reilly Revord finishing in 17:52. Finishing the scoring for the Tigers was Jordyn Kleve with a 18:05. The women ended the day very strong in the standings, placing fifth out of 33 teams.

The men’s and women’s teams will continue their season October 12th in University Park, Pennsylvania, where they will compete in the Penn State National Open.
