On Nov. 9, MUROTC celebrated Veterans Day with a parade that started at Francis Quad, traveled down 8th Street, and came to an end with a closing ceremony at the Boone County Court House.

The annual parade was hosted by the Air Force ROTC and included other branches of ROTC and local organizations like the Boy scouts in Columbia. Former JAG Officer Lt. Gen. Harding (Ret.) was the guest speaker at the closing ceremony, whichwas followed by three-volley salute and the playing of Taps.

Veterans and their families lined 8th Street to participate in the celebrations. Children waved American flags to the sound of the bagpipes as the parade proceeded towards the courthouse. Those with military experience shared their stories and enjoyed reflecting on the importance that Veterans Day holds.

MU Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin even attended to meet veterans in the community and to socialize with MU students.

“We owe a tremendous debt to the millions of people that have served in our armed forces since our nation began. This is our own little way in Columbia to recognize those individuals.” said Loftin.
