Mizzou men’s basketball erased a 12 point deficit late in the second half on a rainy Saturday afternoon and got the win in overtime over the Horned Frogs, 102-98. This game would be one of the five games that gave the SEC the win in the 2021 SEC-Big 12 Challenge after Tennessee won over Kansas to clinch it.

Junior guard Xavier Pinson scored 36 points to beat his season-high from the game over No. 6 Tennessee last week, which is also the most points scored by a Tiger since 2006. He also tied the Mizzou Arena record of eight 3-pointers, which included the game-tying three at the last second to force the Tigers to go into overtime.

To compliment Pinson, senior forward Jeremiah Tilmon also had a career-high 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds that got Tilmon his second consecutive double-double. The duo of Pinson and Tilmon combined for 69 points and became the first duo to score 30 or more points since 2000.

As a team, this was the first 100+ point game for the Tigers since December 2017, and 102 points were the most in almost a decade (102 vs. South Carolina State, 2012). They also shot a season-high 47.8% from beyond the arc. Mizzou basketball is 3-0 when games are decided by five points or less.

The 12th-ranked Mizzou Tigers now hold an 11-3 overall record and a 4-3 conference record, which puts them just behind Tennessee in the SEC standings. Mizzou’s next matchup is Tuesday, Feb. 2 against Kentucky, pending Kentucky will be able to resume activities beforehand after they had to shut down due to the virus on Friday.
