No. 21 Mizzou men’s golf team took to the links March 4-6 in Opelika, Al., to compete in the Auburn Tiger Invitational. Mizzou tallied a five over par score (869) over the three days, finishing sixth in the tournament.

The Tigers were fueled by senior Luigi Botta, who delivered a 54-hole round 216. Botta’s most impressing showing came in round two, firing a six under par, but was unable to cap his success in the third round, posting a two over par, 74, finishing tied for the nineteenth in the tournament. Botta’s second round of 66 was his best single-round score of his collegiate career.

Botta wasn’t the only Tiger to finish in the top twenty. Junior Matt Echelmeier who finished just one stroke shy of Botta’s three day total of 216, recorded a tournament total 217, finishing tied for twenty-third. Echelmeier impressive final round 69, helped the Tigers finish just slightly ahead of Charlotte (874).

Rory Franssen who was unable to travel with the team to the Gator Invitational, finished just outside the top twenty-five (27th overall) led by a three day total of 218. Franssen rounded out the tournament nicely, posting scores of 70 in the first and final rounds.

Although Mizzou only had two top twenty-five finishers, rounding out the top 50 scorers was senior Hayden Buckley who scored a season-high 222, finishing tied for 48th-place.

Next up, the Tigers will head west to compete in the Grand Canyon University Invitational, in blistering-hot Phoenix, AZ on March 16.
