Friday Dec. 4-

The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team 82-63 in the SEC/Big 12 challenge on Friday night. The Sooners improved to 5-2 on the season as the Tigers fell to 4-4.

Ryan Spangler paved the way for the Sooners, scoring a season-high 18 points. Spangler’s teammates Buddy Hield and Isaiah Cousins scored, 17 and 16 points respectively.

It was a great offensive showing by the Sooners as they shot 57 percent from the field and and 50 percent from the three-point line, going 10 for 20. While the offensive showing was great, the Sooners’ defense did well too, not letting Missouri score in the first 5:16 of the second half.

Freshman Jonathan Williams III led Mizzou in scoring with 16 points and eight rebounds. Fellow freshman Montaque Gill-Caesar finished with 15 points and shot 37 percent from the field.

The Sooners’ offense overwhelmed the young Missouri team filled with freshman and sophomores. The Tigers would take the lead early but Cousins hit a three to go up 19-17. After that the Sooners closed out the first half on an 18-8 run to end the half to set the score 37-25. Then out of the locker room it was all Oklahoma, as they went on a 15-0 run to open up the second half and take a commanding 52-25 lead.

It was another blow out lost for the Tigers to a top 25 team. Up next will be Elon this Thursday Dec. 11 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
