The Mizzou Tigers wrestling team concluded their conference season in perfect fashion against the Northern Illinois Huskies on Friday. Mizzou beat NIU buy a score of 24-12 and ended their Mid-American Conference season a perfect 7-0. This victory marked the third time in the last four seasons that Mizzou finished perfect in their conference season. In the course of their perfect 7-0 run in the MAC, Mizzou outscored opponents 241-43, and dating all the way back to 2014 Mizzou has lost only one dual in conference play, going 35-1. The Tigers are also undefeated on the season as a whole, racking up a perfect 17-0 record in the 2017-2018 season.

The dual against the Huskies started off slow for the Tigers, losing the 125-pound bout. But the team bounced back to win three straight bouts to take a 13-3 lead over NIU. Jaydin Eierman won on a first period fall in the 141-pound bout which improved him to a near perfect 23-1 on the season, and in the 149-pound bout Grant Leeth won by major decision 12-4. This marked Leeth’s 13th win in a row improving his overall record to 18-1. After Leeth’s victory Mizzou and Northern Illinois traded wins in the next four bouts. After the back and forth matches Mizzou jumped out ahead thanks to two take downs in the first period and a technical fall in the 197-pound bout where Willie Miklus picked up the 18-1 win. This victory marked Miklus’ 70th overall career victory and tied him for ninth all time in career technical falls with 9 and technical falls in a single season with five.

For Mizzou’s next dual they head to Edwardsville, Il., to take on the SIUE Cougars in their final dual of the season.
