No. 41 Mizzou Tennis (13-9) dropped a match to No. 39 South Carolina (6-9), with a score of 4-1, on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, S.C. The Tigers are 1-6 in SEC play and the Gamecocks are 3-5. Mizzou picked up two sets during the match, one in singles and one in doubles.

For the doubles, South Carolina had two strong victories on courts one and three with the scores of 6-4 and 6-3, shutting down their competitors with a ragging offense. The tigers responded to these loses with the upcoming dynamic duo on court two. The Mizzou doubles team of freshman Valentina Vazquez Pongruber and senior Gabriella Goldin earned a ranked win over the No, 20-ranked team of Silvia Chinellato and Emma Shelton with a score of 6-2. Unfortunately, the duo’s win was not enough to earn the doubles point.

On to singles, Mizzou fell to South Carolina following their wins on courts one, two and four. The Tigers lost all singles sets except for one, leaving two sets unfinished. Mizzou senior Ellie Wright had a huge win on court three with the scores of 6-2 and 6-1, barely letting her competitors earn a point.

Up next, Mizzou returns home to play Saint Louis this Thursday, March 18. The match begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
