No Tricks, Just Treats

On Halloween day, MU students came to Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union where there were no tricks, but only treats.

The Asian Affair Center hosted a pumpkin-carving event for international students as a way to show them American Halloween traditions.

“We like to try to familiarize them with American customs and holidays,” said Maria Swanegan, J1 Scholar Advisor for the MU International Center.

“A lot of them have children here with them so it’s a good opportunity to expose their children to it and have some family time as well,” said Maria Swanegan, J1 Scholar Advisor for the MU International center.

At the event, treats were enjoyed and student’s creativity was at its best when putting various designs on pumpkins.

“It’s really fun sharing the Halloween culture with some of the international students because a lot of them haven’t had a real Halloween before so it’s been cool to teach them how to carve pumpkins,” said Haley Gassel, MU student.

Although some of the students may have been unfamiliar with pumpkin carving, in the end ordinary pumpkins were turned into masterpieces.
