Offense Dominates as Mizzou Sweeps No. 21 Sooners

Saturday, Oct. 29th-

The Missouri Tigers volleyball team swept the No. 21 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at the Hearnes Center.

It was their first win against a ranked opponent since the NCAA tournament last year. The Tigers defeated the Sooners in three sets: 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.

Missouri started the game on fire, easily winning the first set 25-21. The Tigers offense was on point with 20 kills and a .341 hitting percentage. Leading the way as she has all season, sophomore Lisa Henning recorded eight of her match-high 18 kills in the first set.

The Sooners answered back in the second set and seemed to control the set the entire time. They jumped out to a 22-18 lead until the Tigers turned it on for a quick comeback.

With Senior Priscilla Armendariz serving, Mizzou quickly scored five straight points to take the lead 23-22. Missori scored two of the next three points to win the set and take a 2-0 set lead.

The third set stayed close with 20 ties and eight lead changes. The Tigers came out on top though, finishing with a score of 25-23 to sweep the Sooners.

Sophomore Molly Kreklow continued her dominant season with 42 assists in the match to lead the Tigers offense. It was perhaps the Tigers best offensive showing of the year as they finished with 51 kills, the most they’ve hit in one three-set match this season.

The Tigers back row had a very impressive outing finishing with 52 digs, anchored by Armendariz who finished with 15. Kreklow also added 11 digs to complete her 11th double-double of the season.

Henning continued her impressive season as she now leads the Big 12 in multiple statistical categories. She is first in points per set with 5.16 and total points with 211.5. She also leads the conference in kills with 189 total and 4.61 per set.

The win puts coach Wayne Kreklow just two twins shy of 400 wins for his career as a volleyball coach. With two of the team’s next three games at home, the milestone could be reached here in Columbia.

Missouri is now 18-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play while having an impressive home record of 9-1. The Tigers next matchup is against the Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. in Lawrence, Kan.
