Ole Miss Downs Tiger Tennis

Friday, April 12-

As the regular season comes to a close, teams will look for anything they can to build off of heading into the postseason. That might be hard for the Missouri tennis team, after losing its third straight match, falling 4-1 to Ole Miss.

Mizzou (9-11, 2-10) was on the road in Oxford, Miss., after finishing its home schedule last week and could have really used a win as the season was wrapping up. However, things didn’t start off great as the Rebels won the doubles point.

At No. 2 doubles, Caroline Rohde-Moe and Marija Milutinovic easily dispatched Maria Christensen and Rachel Stuhlmann 8-2. The Rebels then clinched the point at No. 3 doubles when Julia Jones and Allie Robbins defeated Elisha Gabb and Madison Rhyner.

Ole Miss extended its lead to start off singles play when No. 39 Rohde-Moe beat No. 86 Cierra Gaytan-Leach 6-3, 6-3 to kick off singles action.

Erin Stephens pushed the Rebels even further ahead when she put Gabb away with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4.

Rhyner then tried to turn things around for the Tigers at No. 6 by picking up her fourth conference victory over Iris Verboven 6-3, 6-0, bringing the score to 3-1.

Jones was then able to finish off a fighting Stuhlmann to finish the match at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 7-5.

The Tigers have one match left before the conference tournament, and they’ll stay in Mississippi to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Sunday.
