“The Batman” has found its director. Warner Brother’s announced that Matt Reeves will direct the DCEU’s first Batman solo film.

“We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group, president and chief content officer, Toby Emmerich. “Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through thus next journey.”

Reeves is known for his directorial work on “Cloverfield”, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, and the upcoming “War for the Planet of the Apes”.

Reeves was previously rumored to be directing the film, until he was rumored to have moved on from the project. It looks as if WB was able to make a final push at Reeves.

The “Planet of the Apes” director was called upon to direct the new Batman movie after Ben Affleck decided to drop out of the director’s chair. Affleck is still to star in the film, but rumor has it he is looking to get out of the role.Warner Brothers announced Matt Reeves will be directing the new "Batman" movie.

Reeves is the safe, but solid pick to lead the next step for the DCEU. As we’ve seen in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, Reeves knows how to direct action. Reeves knows how to portray dark characters, and is there a character for dark than The Dark Knight himself?

A big question for the batman solo film is what will happen with Bruce Wayne, since Affleck reportedly wants out of the role. That question is only intensified by the recent rumor that WB is currently developing a Nightwing movie.

Assuming Nightwing will make an appearance in the movie, Reeves will have a big task on his hands getting the relationship between Batman and his former Robin to work on the big screen.

“The Batman” has yet to start production, but has a tentative 2018 release date.
