Lauren Rice tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four batters as the Missouri Tigers rolled to a 6-0 victory over Omaha on Wednesday.

The Mavericks could not muster any kind of offense in this ballgame as Rice was in the zone in all seven innings. The lone hit for Omaha came by Aubrey Hacke. Starting pitcher Sydney Hampton struggled in the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in just two innings. Aubrey Hacke entered in relief and also had a rough outing, giving up two earned runs on five hits in four innings.

Lauren Rice retired 18 consecutive batters to cap off her impressive performance. Missouri’s offense was anchored by Rylee Pierce who was terrific in this game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs. Kolby Romaine went 1-for-3 with a run, two RBIs and a home run, and Brooke Wilmes contributed, going 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. The Tigers’ offense was spread out very well with seven players recording at least one hit in this game.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-run homer by Romaine to left field. Rylee Pierce added another run with an RBI single to bring Regan Nash around to score in the following inning. In the fourth inning, Pierce nailed an RBI double to left field to extend the lead to 4-0. Missouri tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning, capped off by an RBI double by Pierce to stretch the lead to 6-0 and seal the game.

It was the third shutout this season by Lauren Rice. Her previous shutout happened on March 24 at Arkansas.

Next up the Tigers will host No. 8 Auburn in a three-game series this weekend. The series opener will take place on Friday.
