Ever wanted to get back to some roots, listen to some blues, AND eat barbeque? Well good ol’ Columbia, Missouri has all three for you! Every year at the end of September, the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival is held at Stephens Lake Park near the downtown area. Let me tell you, it is a rootin’ tootin’ good time and the musical guests never disappoint.

This year’s lineup is quite stellar, if I do say so myself. Among some great artists are Blues Traveler, The Avett Brothers, Grace Potter, and my personal favorite, Ben Folds. Houndmouth, a group that performed at the Blue Note just a few weeks ago, will also return to Columbia for the festival!

You may be thinking to yourself, “Have I heard of any of these people before?” You most likely have. Blues Traveler’s hit, “Run- Around,” came out in 1994, and if you don’t know it, your parents sure do. That song was inescapable. The Avett Brothers have a popular song called “Head Full Of Doubt/ Road Full Of Promise” that they released in 2009. Grace Potter has a well-known song called “Paris (Ooh La La)” that came out in 2010 and a song on the “Tangled” Disney movie soundtrack called “Something That I Want.” Do none of these ring a bell? If not, that’s even more reason to check out the festival and hear some great new music!

The man of all men Ben Folds had a song on the soundtrack of movie “Over the Hedge” and a big hit titled “You Don’t Know Me,” which was released in 2008 and is still one of my favorite songs to jam out to eight years later. Finally, Houndmouth is a fun little band from Indiana and its most recent hit is “Sedona.”

You do not want to miss this year’s Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival. With big names like Houndmouth and Ben Folds, you have to go see what’s up. Along with all this great music, there will be barbeque from not only all around town, but all around the state. Kansas City barbeque will be there, and do you really want to miss that opportunity? Me neither.
