The 2019 Chiefs captured their first Super Bowl Title in 50 years. Led by an elite offense, the team came back from 10+ point deficits in all three of their playoff victories. The question that is always asked of the previous Super Bowl Champion is, will they run it back?

The last team to defend their Super Bowl title was the 2003-2004 New England Patriots. It’s Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, nobody can ever repeat what they did in New England right? There may be a new ruler of the AFC. The Chiefs have all the tools to repeat as not only champions of the AFC, but also champions of the NFL once again.

If you look at that ‘03-’04 Patriots team, what did they have? They had an elite quarterback, one of the greatest head coaches of all time and a front office that structured deals to keep the team together. The 2020 Chiefs have an elite quarterback, one of the greatest head coaches of all time and a front office that has kept the team together this offseason.

The Chiefs have the makings of a dynasty, one that could challenge the Patriots dynasty of the last 20 years.

Of course as Super Bowl Champion you are going to have a target painted on your chest. Here’s what to expect for some of the Chiefs biggest games of the year.

  1. Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs September 10th, 2020: This game has the makings of one of the most important games in the Chiefs kingdom for years to come. The two best quarterbacks from the 2017 NFL draft, one that has already achieved more in his three year career than many quarterbacks before him, and one that is still trying to prove he has what it takes to lead his team to the Promise Land. Then, take into account what happened the last time these 2 teams squared off. Houston jumped out to a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter, but at the end of the second quarter KC led 28-24 and never looked back. This is also football opening night, and in the time of a pandemic, football cannot come back soon enough. The television ratings for this game are going to be through the roof and Mahomes vs Watson will be worth the price of admission. Prediction: Chiefs 38-Texans 24
  2. Kansas City Chiefs @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers November 29th, 2020: This is going to be one of the most anticipated games of the season. Mahomes vs Brady 4.0. Can Mahomes tie the career series? Will Brady and his high flying offense take down the Chiefs elite offensive unit? Just the Brady Mahomes storyline is enough to get any football fan wanting to watch this game. However, the two head coaches are two of the best offensive minds in football. Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy vs Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich; these coaching staffs are going to dial up all their big plays in this game hoping to outsmart the other. Prediction: Chiefs 33-Buccaneers 28
  3. Kansas City Chiefs @ New Orleans Saints December 20th, 2020: The Super Bowl matchup we all expected to see after the 2018 season. Both teams lost in heartbreaking fashion in their conference championships, but both teams are now stronger than ever. The Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill vs the Saints led by Drew Brees, Michael Thomas, and Alvin Kamara. These are 2 of the most powerful offenses of all time, and we get to see it as a regular season matchup. Sean Payton vs Andy Reid in another battle of top offensive minds. This game should come down to the wire, but the fact that this game is in New Orleans might give the Saints that extra push. Prediction: Saints 27- Chiefs 21
  4. Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens September 28th, 2020: Quite possibly the most hyped up regular season football game of all time. This is going to be a battle of 2 Goliaths. The two best teams in the AFC possibly even football. The last two MVP award winners going toe-to-toe under the lights in Baltimore. This has a feeling of Chiefs Rams back in 2018. Can the Ravens defense with the absence of Earl Thomas be able to stop the Chiefs attack. Will the speed of the Chiefs defense allow them to keep up with the lighting speed of Baltimore’s top weapons. Many expect this game to live up to the hype and be one of the greatest regular season games of all time. Prediction: Chiefs 40-Ravens 35

This season will be one for the history books. This will be a season like no other with only a few NFL teams allowing fans in the stadium due to the COVID-19 pandemic a team’s ability to feed off of themselves will be more important than ever before. This year, the teams with the most experience together will be able to dominate the league, and it is for that reason that many fans expect the Chiefs to run it back.
