After posting a 40-yard dash time of 4.91 at the NFL Combine in late February, Michael Sam ran a 4.69 at Missouri’s pro day to substantially improve his draft stock. Sam also improved his vertical jump to 25 ½ inches to 30 inches and his bench press from 17 to 19 repititions.

Sam, who was one of 15 players who participated in Missouri’s pro day, did not speak to the media following his workouts. Sam is set to become the NFL’s first openly gay player come the 2014 season. The senior led Missouri to a Cotton Bowl victory in 2014 following a season in which he recorded 11 ½ sacks and received the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. He is expected to be drafted in the middle or later rounds.

Representatives from all 32 teams was in Columbia, Mo., Thursday afternoon to see Sam and his Tigers teammates. Fellow defensive end Kony Ealy impressed scouts after his lackluster combine. Ealy’s 40 time was recorded in the mid-4.6s, a huge improvement over his 4.92 time at the combine. Ealy is expected to go late in the first round.

Wide receiver L’Damian Washington improved his draft stock with a 40 time of 4.44. Washington is attempting to enter the NFL after a senior season in which he had 50 catches for a team-high 893 yards and 10 touchdowns. The senior has favorable tangibles, coming in officially at 6-4 and 195 pounds.

These three, as well as the rest of the Missouri prospects, will have to wait until to wait until the NFL Draft on May 8 to see where they will fall.
