Facing their fourth nationally ranked opponent in six games against Kentucky, Missouri women’s basketball couldn’t keep up with the Wildcats’ potent offensive attack and fell 83-69 Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.

Sophomore Sierra Michaelis had another strong game for the Tigers, tallying 16 points to go with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Classmate Jordan Frericks collected 10 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year. Six of Frericks’s rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor.

Five Kentucky players scored in double digits, led by double-doubles from Makayla Epps (18 points and 10 rebounds) and Linnae Harper (15 points and 11 boards).

Missouri managed to hang tough early in the game, jumping out to an 10-4 lead and trailing by just 3 at halftime. A layup from Frericks gave the Tigers a 49-48 lead with 14:07 left in the game, but the Kentucky defense kicked it up a notch, preventing Frericks or Michaelis from scoring from the field for the rest of the game.

All in all, Missouri led for less than four minutes of game clock on Sunday. The Tigers had trouble taking care of the ball, committing 22 turnovers, which led to 23 Kentucky points. They were also limited to just eight points in the paint on the afternoon, only two of which came in the second half.

Next on the schedule for Missouri are a couple of road games, starting with a trip to Gainseville, Fla. for their next game Thursday night against the Florida Gators.
