Snapchat is a mobile app that allows users to communicate back and forth in a creative way: with photos and videos. Snapchat is a place where people can keep their friends and family updated instantly via pictures and videos by posting to their “MyStory.” It has been a popular app, however, as of January 27, 2015, Snapchat users all over the globe were appalled by the new update Snapchat released.

In the new update, Snapchat released a new feature called “Discover,” which is a new way to view stories from different editorial teams such as CNN, Food Network, and National Geographic. According to Snapchat’s recent blog, the feature of Discover includes full screen photos and videos, extensive layouts, and gorgeous advertising. Every edition is refreshed after 24 hours because of the old adage, “what’s news today is history tomorrow.”

Before the update, Snapchat users were able to see their friend’s “best friends” list, which was a list of the top three people a person “snaps” most frequently. Now, with the new update, no user can see someone else’s “best friends,” ONLY their own. This has a lot of people in a rage about the new update.

“It sucks,” says Mizzou freshman, Madison Richardson. “I cannot be nosy because I am not able to see people’s best friends,” she says with a giggle. “The only good part about it is that you can take a picture of someone’s ‘specialized ghost,’ and it will add them as your new Snapchat friend.”

The rumor is that Snapchat is thinking about bringing back the “best friends list” because a majority of users say that this was the best part of the app.

“It’s pretty much the same,” says Mizzou freshman Josh Brock. “I don’t disapprove of anything they changed, so it is fine by me. As for the best friends list being removed; I’m not a nosy person, so that’s fine. Plus I don’t have a girlfriend to be nosy about, so it’s all good.”

In a few short days, Snapchat has jumped from #3 on the free apps chart in iTunes, down to #6.
