Friday, Sept. 19-

Friday night featured a battle of the Tigers as Mizzou (5-3-1) opened up SEC play against LSU  (4-3-1) at Audrey J. Walton stadium. Missouri would ending winning the match 3-1, and setting a season high four game winning streak.

In the first half, Mizzou was sound on both sides of the ball, out shooting LSU eight to one. The Missouri offense started off well, but LSU freshman goalie Lily Alfeld was up to task keeping Mizzou off the scoreboard in the first half.

Missouri had many chances to score, with the best chance coming at the 11 minute mark. Junior Lauren Flynn came inches away from giving the Tigers the lead, but her shot hit off the crossbar.

The second half was no different as Mizzou’s offense continued their exceptional play from the first. The Tigers first goal of the game came off a great cross from Kaitlyn Clark to Reagan Russell and put Missouri up 1-0.

Despite Missouri controlling the possession for most of the game, LSU answered right back with a goal at the 36 minute mark by Jorian Baucom to tie the score.

At the 29 minute mark of the final half, Clark placed a shot in the upper corner to beat Alfeld and yet again give Mizzou the lead.

LSU had one final opportunity with less than a minute remaining when they missed a header by inches over the crossbar. Sophomore Melanie Donaldson finished the game off for Mizzou with a breakaway goal in the closing seconds.

With the win, Missouri improved to 6-3-1 on the season. Its next game is Sept. 26 at South Carolina.
