In the first match of the Mary Nutter Classic, Mizzou thrashed North Carolina State, 17-2, led by a 10-run second inning and 2 homers by Chloe Rathburn.

Missouri took an early lead after one inning, going up 2-0 but really got it going in the second inning. Rathburn opened up with a 2-run home run in the second and would go on to hit a grand slam later that inning.

Sami Fagan went a perfect 4-for-4 for the Tigers scoring three runs and knocking out a home run of her own. Mizzou tacked on five more runs in the third inning as extra insurance, while North Carolina State was unable to get anything going with its only two runs off solo homers.

Rathburn ended the match with seven RBIs, which is good for the second highest in school history for a single game. Fagan had four RBIs and Amanda Sanchez chimed in one of her own while batting 3-for-3. The collective effort produced a season high 17 runs on 14 hits.

Following the match, the Tigers (7-0) face Stanford in game 2 of the Mary Nutter Classic.
