Softball Duo Propels Tigers to Series Win

Sunday, April 21-

The Missouri softball team hit the road this weekend for a marquee match-up with No. 12 LSU and came away with a 2-1 series victory over the opposing Tigers. With these two victories, Mizzou’s overall record moves to 26-7 (11-6), which now only trails LSU by one game in the conference standings.

In the series opener, senior Chelsea Thomas put on a clinic and was nearly unhittable. Thomas racked up 13 strikeouts while only allowing one run off of two hits in her complete game effort. The win improved Thomas to 16-4 on the season and solidified her as the all-time wins leader in school history. Mizzou took game one, 6-1.

Offensively, fellow senior Nicole Hudson had a nice day at the plate as she went 3-5 with a double.

In game two, LSU roared back to even the series in a big way with a dominating 8-0 win. Hudson was not herself as evidence by the four-run first inning turned in by LSU. The Tigers fielding was also not at its best as they committed five fielding errors. That was all the help junior Ashley Czechner of LSU needed. Her five scoreless innings paved the way to her ninth victory of the season.

In the series finale, Mizzou pulled out the close 3-2 series clincher behind the heroes from game one,
Thomas and Hudson. After surrendering the lead in the first inning, Hudson smacked a two-run shot to left center to reclaim the lead. She followed that at-bat with a solo shot in the fifth to seal the deal for the Tigers. Hudson ended the series going 6-9 with two home runs and three runs batted in.

Thomas, once again, was tough on the mound as she punched out 10 LSU batters with only two runs put up on the board, polishing her record to 17-4.

Mizzou will be back in Columbia for a mid-week non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.
