Eyebrows were raised on Monday night as the Missouri Tigers softball team dominated in its third–and final–game against powerhouse Texas A&M. The No. 19 Tigers sealed the series sweep with a convincing 7-1 victory, marking their first SEC series sweep since 2014.

The ladies got off to a hot start as junior Cheyenne Baxter took the mound for Missouri. Baxter, 2-1 on the year, shut down the Aggies, only allowing two hits and one run over four innings pitched.

This was an impressive outing for the junior, as the Aggies had a batting average coming in to the game of .334, a slugging percentage of .564 and an on-base percentage of .449.

It is safe to say Texas A&M has had no issue swinging the bat all year.

The Tiger bats, however, were hot all night with freshman Kolby Romaine blasting two home runs in back-to-back innings to lead the team. This was rare for the freshman as Romaine had only two home runs total all season coming in to the ballgame.

As always, senior Emily Crane displayed her complete dominance on the diamond. The reigning SEC Co-Player of the Week ripped three hits on the evening, constantly putting pressure on the Aggie fielders.

Other notable Tigers include redshirt senior Taylor Gadbois, who tied her single-season career high in stolen bases with No. 46. Also, junior Chloe Rathburn recorded her 52nd RBI of the season, now tied for the team lead.

Although it was a six-run win, the game was close for the majority of the time. With a 2-0 lead, the Tigers gave up a solo shot in the fourth inning from A&M’s Tori Vidales, cutting the lead to only one.

The Tiger bats proved to be too much to handle though. A three-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth, along with five Aggie errors, allowed them to run away with the game in the end.

With two walk-off victories and a dominating performance on Monday evening, the ladies will look to continue their five-game winning streak this Wednesday, April 27.

The Tigers will take on a struggling Southeast Missouri State team in a double-header, first pitches set for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
