The Missouri Tigers men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to Peoria, Illinois this Saturday to participate in the Bradley Classic. This meet would mark the last race of the year for some of Mizzou’s runners with nationals being right around the corner.

MU’s men’s squad struggled a bit on Saturday as they placed 18th overall, scoring a less than stellar 495 points. The Tigers were led by senior Sheldon Keence in the men’s 8K race. Keence placed 58th overall with a time of 25:45.8.

Mizzou’s women’s team also placed lower in the standings as they finished 19th and scored 506 points. Redshirt sophomore Sophia Racette made her debut in black and gold and did not disappoint. Racette placed 78th, leading all other Tigers, and ran a time of 22:26.2. MU Assistant Coach Stephen Smith had this to say about Racette: “It was great to see Sophia get back on the course after a long time away battling injuries. She has worked hard to get back to where she is, and will continue to get better through training and competing.”

Smith also had this to say about both team’s overall performance: “It was also good to see the exceptional effort from our mid-distance crew. The 6k and 8k is a bit out of their comfort zone, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with how hard they were running at the end of the race.”

The Tigers will have little time to mull over this race as they run in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday. This event is MU’s last regular season meet of the season.
