On Thursday, March 12, the Mizzou Veteran’s Center and The State Historical Society of Missouri worked together to host a book reading event, featuring excerpts from the anthology “Proud To Be: Writing by American Warriors”.

“Proud To Be: Writing by American Warriors” is a collection of poems, essays, fiction and nonfiction stories written by veterans or families of veterans.

Attendees were moved over to a reception, which contained a display of military artifacts and paintings of World War II by Thomas Hart Benton.

The event was beneficial to both students and veterans.

“I do think it helps the veterans, I think it’s another form for them to express their experiences. Their experiences are important,” said Jeff Corrigan

“Proud to Be: Writing By American Warriors” is available for purchase and the military artifacts, as well as the paintings are available upon request at The State Historical Society of Missouri.
