On Oct. 5, University of Missouri students and Columbia residents gathered in Speaker’s Circle to protest the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh and to share testimonies of sexual assault. Demonstrators also wore black in a show of solidarity with survivors.
Attending the protest was Michaela Skelton, who is running for Missouri’s 50th District State Representative. Skelton leaves MU students with a call to action.
“For this issue specifically, I would want to see mandatory consent training in our sex education for our young people,” Skelton said. “Make sure you get registered to vote because the people that are in office right now aren’t listening, and we need new representation that are going to listen to our needs and stories.”
