Syracuse Shocks Tigers on Senior Night

Mizzou hosted Syracuse in an important matchup featuring two teams trying to become bowl eligible.

Saturday, Nov. 17-

Despite Missouri quarterback James Franklin’s stellar performance in the first half, the Tigers struggled to execute offensively in the last two quarters, ending the game with a 31-27 loss to Syracuse.

The Tiger offense looked incredibly promising in the first two quarters, led by Franklin, who found receiver Dorial Green-Beckham on the first drive of the game. Franklin continued passing with extreme efficiency, completing six straight passes in a row on his second offensive drive, ending with a 30-yard pass to receiver Jimmie Hunt.

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel would enter the locker room happy after the first half, but would certainly not end the game feeling the same way.

Franklin’s offensive efficiency died down heavily in the second half, ceasing to put any more points on the board. He finally left the game early in the fourth quarter after taking a hit on a rushing attempt on third down.

Mizzou’s freshman quarterback Corbin Berkstresser gave the Tigers a bit of hope on his first drive of the game, leading the Tigers down the field on a 79-yard drive for a touchdown.

The flicker of momentum was completely extinguished by Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib. He was lights out in the fourth quarter, leading his offense down the field on a drive for a touchdown late in the final quarter.

The crowd was on its feet in excitement and anxiety as Andrew Baggett’s 46-yard field goal gave Mizzou a slim 27-24 lead with less than two minutes to go.

Unfortunately, Nassib continued his destruction of the Tiger defense. The final score of the game came from a touchdown pass to Syracuse receiver Alec Lemon after an 81-yard drive down the field.

Any hopes of an eighth straight bowl appearance for Mizzou lie in College Station, Texas where the Tigers will take on Heisman candidate Johnny Manziel and No. 9 Texas A&M. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday.
