The Missouri tennis team continued to struggle in SEC play, dropping a matchup 4-1 to the Tennessee Volunteers. Despite several close matches, Missouri garnered just on singles win and one doubles win.

While the higher-seeded doubles matches proved to be close, Mizzou’s third seeded combination of Cassidy Spearman and Beatriz Machado Santos defeated Tennessee convincingly by a set score of 8-1.

The Tigers aimed to win at least one of the other two doubles matches, but the team ultimately lost the doubles point.

Alex Clark and Brianna Lashway lost 8-5, while Brittany Lashway and Madison Rhyner fell on the short end of an 8-7 match between the two seeds.

Singles didn’t prove to be any easier for the Tigers, who forfeited the rest of the matches after falling in three of the first four matches to drop the event.

Missouri’s Kelli Hine, Cassidy Spearman and Bea Machado Santos were all defeated in two sets, as the Tigers’ top three singles players were limited to one game point or less each in at least one set.

However, the night proved to be more positive for a few other Tigers. Freshman Brianna Lashway displayed one of her best showings on the team, winning her first SEC singles match.

After losing their eighth straight, the Tigers fell to 4-9 while losing their third conference match at home.

Missouri started a four-game home stand, and will look to get back in the winning column this Sunday against the Georgia Bulldogs at noon.
