On Wednesday, junior Bea Machado Santos was named second-team All-SEC. In only her second year at Mizzou, Santos has become the first player to earn this honor since 2014.

Santos had an outstanding year as she held the No. 1 position for almost the entire season. She led the team to 16 wins, which were the most in a season for Mizzou since 2004.

She also led the team to their best start since 2002, winning seven straight matches, giving them a strong 7-0 record to begin the year.

She posted an overall record of her own in singles play of 15-9, with six of those wins coming to ranked opponents.

Notable wins include her defeat of SEC Player of the Year Brooke Austin from Florida, who was third in the nation at the time. She also defeated No. 20 Andie Dikosavlijevic of Auburn and No. 33 Arianne Hartono of Ole Miss.

Santos was also nationally ranked in five out of nine ITA Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings polls. The junior ranked as high as 53rd in the country.

While the regular season might be over, Santos’ season quite possibly might continue. She will wait and see if she is selected for the 2016 NCAA Tournament Individual Field. The selection show will take place on May 4.
